Karl Haigler and Rae Nelson met in Washington, D.C., more than 27 years ago and discovered a mutual passion for workforce development. In 2002, they founded Haigler Enterprises to provide workforce solutions for private, public, and not-for-profit organizations. And, yes, we have been married for 25 years!
More about Karl. Karl is a nationally recognized expert in education, workforce development, and adult literacy. In the mid-1980s, Karl served at the U.S. Department of Education as Director of Adult Education and Director of the President’s Adult Literacy Initiative. During this time, he was literacy advisor to Barbara Bush. From 1988 to 1991, he served as Special Advisor to the Governor of Mississippi for literacy and workforce development.
Karl has co-authored publications including The Bottom Line: Basic Skills in the Workplace, Workplace Literacy Training in Modernizing Manufacturing Environments, and Literacy Behind Prison Walls. His most recent contribution to the intelligence field is his article for the Journal of U.S. Intelligence Studies, “Intelligence Support for Military Operations.”
In the non-profit world, Karl has served as a board member and research chair of the Gap Year Association and as executive director of Bioethics-in-Action.
Karl has a B.A. in political science from Wake Forest University and a M.A. in political science from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
More about Rae. Rae has held leadership positions in workforce and education policy and practice in the public, private, and not-for profit sectors. These include serving at The White House as Associate Director for Education Policy and as Vice President/Executive Director of the Center for Workforce Preparation, a not-for-profit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the not-for-profit Gap Year Association.
Rae has a B.A. in English from Cornell University and a M.A. in Public Policy and Communications from The American University.
